Bro. Roger and Mrs. Anita AkersRoger Akers, son of Hugh and Melva Akers, is a native of Guin, AL, and grew up attending the Green Springs Baptist Church.  He was saved in revival services there at age 10.   A former principal, teacher and coach, Bro. Akers surrendered to the call of God in 1984, and was ordained in 1987.  He graduated from the University of North Alabama where he received a B. S. in biology and physical education, a M. S. in biology and secondary education administration, and an Ed.S, also in administration.

Bro. Akers and his wife (Anita Thornton of Mantachie, MS) have three married children and six grandchildren.  Robin and his wife Julie have two daughters, Ellie and Macy.  Carey and her husband Scott Brodbeck have a daughter, Avery, and a son, Camden.  Ryan and his wife Kelly have two sons, Rowen and Hudson and a daughter, Hannah Ryan.

Bro. Roger came to East Amory as pastor in November, 2002. Both Bro. Roger and Mrs. Anita are enjoying serving at East Amory where he also has the privilege of teaching a young adult Sunday School class.  Mrs. Anita serves as the church pianist, adult ladies’ Sunday School teacher, National WMA Pianist, State WMA Pianist, and NE MS District WMA Song Leader.  She is also keyboardist and vocalist with the Shiloh Trio of East Amory.
